Friday, 4.42pm - CENTRAL beach is getting cleaner, according to Skegness Marine Conservation Society's.
The society's annual beach clean showed the overall amount of rubbish left was lower than last year, but there has been an increase in cigarette butts from 143 in 2007, to 314 this time.

Anthea Briggs, from the society, believes this rise may be caused by the smoking ban, but she was pleased with the overall result.

The bulk of the rubbish was found on the dry sand, so the society does not think it is being washed up.

Very little was noted along the beach's promenade.

The society has listed plastic bottles (38), bottle caps (16) and mesh bags (11) as the main offending items, after cigarette butts.

To ensure the beach gets even cleaner, the society would like to see bins put on the beach.
