SKEGNESS Lifeboat Station is preparing to welcome royalty aboard.
The Duke of Kent, president of the Royal National Lifeboat Institution, will visit the station in Tower Esplanade, next Thursday.
He will meet the crew, their families, fundraisers and other supporters.
Skegness lifeboat coxswain John Irving told the standard: "It is a great honour to have the Duke of Kent visit. It will be a great day for the lifeboat station and the town.
"Everyone is looking forward to it."
He added: "A visit like this really does recognise all of the hard work put in, by not only the crew, but everyone associated with the lifeboat, the fundraisers and other volunteers."
Skegness is the first port of call for the Duke, who requested visits to eight stations during a two-day tour.
This includes a trip with the Humber lifeboat from Grimsby to Spurn Point.
But Mr Irving is prepared to take the Duke out to sea sooner if necessary.
He said: "When I was speaking to security staff they asked what would happen if we got a shout.
"I said the Duke could come along. They told me not to joke about it because he probably would!"
The visit on Thursday will not be the Duke's first to Skegness Lifeboat Station.
Mr Irving said: "He last visited about 20 years ago but a few things have certainly changed. Back then we were based near the Clock Tower, and there have been a few advances in technology.
"But I know the Duke takes his role as president of the RNLI very seriously so I expect him to be very knowledgeable."
l Neighbouring lifeboat crews will cover for Skegness during the visit.
l For security reasons the Standard can not disclose the time the Duke will be arriving.
