A RARE albino seal pup has been rescued by Skegness Natureland Seal Sanctuary.
The five-month-old pup, named Whitebeam, was severely underweight when he was found washed up on the beach near Sutton on Sea by a member of the public.

Sanctuary co-owner Richard Yeadon said: "When he came to us he was only about 43lbs when he should be at least 70lbs.
"His main problem was lungworm, which infests the breathing tubes and makes it difficult to breathe long enough underwater to catch fish.
"Because he couldn't catch any food he just got weaker and weaker."

Whitebeam also had injuries to his front and rear flippers.
The staff at Natureland treated him in the seal hospital.

First Whitebeam was given a worming injection and then the wounds on his flippers were cleaned and treated.

He was also put on a course of antibiotics.

"He is now in a pool at the side of the hospital," said Richard.
"He has been feeding much better and learning how to feed for fish in the wild."

If Whitebeam continues to make good progress he will be released back into the sea in a few weeks.

Albino seals are very rare - Whitebeam being the first at the centre since 1994.

Richard said: "During this time we have rescued between 150-200 seals, so they are very rare."

This year, to date, the Natureland team has rescued 27 orphaned and injured seal pups.
