Wednesday, 9.19am - A PROTEST against increased fees at Southview Leisure Park, Skegness, was held on Saturday by park-home owners angry about an increase of around £300.
The park was taken over by Bryanston Kenmore Ltd at the end of last year and was turned into a private park in March.
Onnly people staying on the park can use its leisure and entertainment facilities, including its swimming pool, bars and restuarants. Members of the public can join for a fee.
The new owners pledged to enhance the facilities and have made improvements increased security.
The cost of this has been reflected in increased service bills but many residents are deeply unhappy at the steep rise, especially as they have no choice whether they want membership for the facilities or not.
The Standard has been contacted by several disgruntled caravan owners, most of which do not wish to be named. They told us they had tried to speak to management but do not feel they are being listened to.
A letter, sent out to everyone living on the park, said: "Compulsory membership on all owners is in our view totally unnecessary and places a huge financial burden upon those owners who do not wish to, or are unable to make use of these facilities."
Some people have suggested a two-tier system where some pay full membership with unlimited use of facilities while others pay a reduced fee and pay for facilities as they use them.
More than 200 people attended Saturday's meeting, organised by residents, but they were not met by a Southview representative.
A resident who attended said a smaller group was asked to meet with financial manager Karen Bishop but so far no discussions have taken place.
Another protest is planned this Saturday.
Southview was unable to comment at the time of going to press.
