Friday, 9.33am - A PETITION against the possible redevelopment of part of the Tower Gardens, Skegness, has been launched by Skegness Community Action Group.
Plans have been submitted to East Lindsey District Council by Bell Leisure to build a hotel and apartment building in Grand Parade which includes taking over the park entrance, and putting a road through part of it.

This has sparked fears in the town its last remaining green space will be lost or ruined.

A spokesperson for the Community Action Group said: "We have two petitions, one for residents and one for holidaymakers, to say 'no' to East Lindsey for any planned development of the green open space of the Tower Gardens.

"We will be actively signing people up."

The group is appealing to ELDC and the Earl of Scarbrough, whose estate gifted the park to the town many years ago, not to allow the Tower Gardens to be altered.

People can submit plans for any piece of land, whether it belongs to them or not. ELDC, which owns the Tower Gardens, will have to decide whether it will sell or lease this land for development.

The plans are with ELDC but have not yet been considered by the planning committee.

The petitions will be available in shops, and members of the group will gather signatures in the town centre.
