Wednesday, 12.52pm - A NEW service aimed at isolated people over 65 is being launched in the Chapel St Leonards area.
The service, run by Age Concern Lindsey together with Neighbourhood Watch, will be a pilot scheme and if successful could be implemented in other parts of the county.
The 'wellbeing' service involves participants being assigned a dedicated volunteer who will call them every weekday to check on their wellbeing. The ultimate aim of the service is to allow older people to continue living independently giving them and their friends and family peace of mind.
Age Concern Lindsey chairman Irmgard Parrot said: "When our development officer Suzanne Parks brought the idea of helping older people to continue living independently to the board, it was met very enthusiastically."
Mrs Parks applied for funding and arranged to work in partnership with Neighbourhood Watch.
Neighbourhood Watch administrator for East Lindsey Tony Day said: "We are all delighted to be able to help Age Concern deliver this service."
The scheme will have its official launch at Chapel St Leonards Village Hall on May 12 at 12.30pm. Mrs Parrot and Chief Supt Russ Hardy, of Skegness Police, will be opening the launch.
There will be a chance for members of the public to find out more about the service and meet the people involved.
