Wednesday, 10am: A BOWLING alley is among the latest plans submitted for the Grand Parade fire site in Skegness.
After the first two submissions were met with public outcry, Bell Leisure has developed a third idea for the site of the former Lucky Strikes arcade.
The plans are for a building with four floors, which includes 10-pin bowling on the ground floor.
The lower ground floor would be used for storage, refuse and parking, while the ground and first floors would have entertainment, leisure and amusements, with toilets.
The second floor would have the same use as the ground and first floor but would include an office area and balcony.
The original proposal for a six-storey hotel, 40 apartments, three restaurants and 3,000sqm of leisure facilities, met with public disapproval because of the impact on the Tower Gardens and four kiosks at its entrance, which would have been lost.
Communications officer for East Lindsey District Council James Gilbert said: "There will be no encroachment in to the Tower Gardens because the public feel so strongly and we have listened to the community."
A second plan was submitted for a four-storey building with 16 apartments, but would still have required a road to run through the park for apartment owners.
Chairman of Skegness Chamber of Commerce Glenis Brown would be glad to see the space on the seafront filled and believes regeneration would be good for the town.
She added: "It doesn't appear that they are taking up any more space and are building within their confines. I can't see reason for objection, but I would have to know more to give any support."
