Monday, 4.58pm - A PUB landlord from Skegness believes North Parade in Skegness is neglected by the district council.
Mark Dannatt, who owns the Seaview Pub, is angry East Lindsey District Council has changed the route of the switch-on parade on July 25. It used to start at the town hall in North Parade but this year it will begin at the pier field in Grand Parade.
Mr Dannatt said: "We are trying to get businesses working at this end of town, but we're being kicked in the teeth by ELDC.
"We are the lost back end of Skegness for some reason. We have so many businesses down here.
"Skegness has a seafront, not just Grand Parade."
He was also concerned starting the parade further down would mean elderly people in the hotels along North Parade will not be able to watch it.
Mr Dannatt referred to the out-of-date signage which we reported on two weeks ago. He hopes new signs will point people in the direction of the north end of town.
ELDC communications officer James Gilbert said funding from Arts Council England will make the illuminations event a bonus for everyone.
He said: "We support all businesses in Skegness by actively promoting the town and getting more visitors here.
"We encourage all businesses to pull together to make this an exceptional year."
He said the parade has been moved because it will not stop at the Clock Tower as usual, but will extend to the beach.
Town clerk Tony Cumberworth said new signs were being organised and he was sure they would include facilities in North Parade.
