INGOLDMELLS has landed a UK first with a new Hov Pod craft flying on the beach.
Owners say it is the first time the Hov Pod, essentially a hovercraft, has been used on the country's shoreline.
It will be used to assist HM Coastguard and the lifeboat, as well as a pleasure ride.
Simon Adderley, managing director of Easter UK Coastal Amenities, which owns the beach, said: "This is a real positive step forward for Ingoldmells. For too long this beach has been nationally known as a very dangerous beach and sea.
"We made huge strides forward in safety procedures last year, and we have further demonstrated our commitment to beach safety with the purchase of the Hov Pod in 2006."
He added: "The beach and promenade are now not only cleaner and safer than ever before, but with all the new attractions we have it is a great place to visit."
Lee Whittaker, a partner in the firm which owns the beach, will be on the Hov Pod.
He said: "It's fantastic. It's like a rally car crossed with a motorbike, crossed with an airplane."
For rescues the main advantage of the Hov Pod is its speed. It can be in the sea within a matter of seconds and with a top speed of 45 miles an hour can reach victims quickly.
Lee also expects the craft to be very useful if a child goes missing because it can cover ground much quicker than someone on foot.
Lee is currently clocking up the hours on the Hov Pod so he can get permission to take passengers out with him. He hopes to do this within two weeks.
