Tuesday, 4.42pm - A COUPLE from London have been left housebound following a mix up over swine flu tests at Skegness Hospital.
Charlotte Corrigan, 19, took her boyfriend Thomas Wise, 19, to the hospital with a suspected asthma attack after visiting the Lincolnshire Show on Thursday.

She said: "Thomas went into hospital with an asthma attack but the hospital decided he might have had swine flu and evacuated the waiting room.

"They took the swabs and told us to stay quarantined."

Miss Corrigan said Thomas had been ill in hospital and had a fit but they have since returned to London.

She said he had not heard from the hospital by Monday, so she rang up to get his test results.

She said: "We rang up and they told us they had taken the wrong swab. We were told we could not leave the building but wait for someone to come and swab him."

She said no blood test was carried out and Mr Wise, who is feeling better, now has no idea if he has the illness or not.

Miss Corrigan added: "If people are worried they may have it (swine flu], do not rely on the hospital because it is beyond them."

Head of communications at the United Lincolnshire Hospitals Trust Clare White said the trust could not comment on individual cases and could not confirm if a swine flu test was carried out on Thursday.

She added: "We spoke to the Health Protection Agency and they took control of the case. "We followed their protocol, took advice from them and followed their guidance."

To reduce the risk of spreading swine flu the public are advised to cover their nose and mouth when coughing and sneezing, using a tissue when possible, maintaining basic hygiene and cleaning hard surfaces.

* If anyone has flu like symptoms they should stay at home to limit contact with others and seek medical advice through NHS Direct, tel, 08001 513513.
