Thursday, 9.25am - ELDERLY people living in East Lindsey have been described as potentially a 'huge resource' for voluntary work.

The comment came at an executive board meeting from Coun Colin Davie who continued: "Being retired doesn't mean you're on the scrapheap."

To demonstrate its commitment to encouraging volunteering, the board agreed to commit grants totalling £135,000 to the organisation Voluntary Action East Lindsey over the next five years.

A cautionary note was sounded by Coun John Upsall about committing so much money without safeguards that it would be wisely spent.

Chief executive Nigel Howells replied: "If they don't perform, we have the power to withdraw the funding."
