Dog attacked police officer and pensioner

MOnday, 10.58am - A POLICE officer needed six stitches in his arm after a dog attacked in Skegness yesterday, Sunday, morning.
The officer was trying to deal with the dog's owner after reports the 29-year-old man had been kicking his dog, described as a bull mastiff or Staffordshire bull terrier-type of dog.


The dog lunged at the officer, biting his ar, before fleeing from the scene at the rear of the Tower Gardens. The dog then injured a 75-year-old man on bicycle in Grand Parade.


Officers searched the area, fearing for the safety of others, and tracked the dog down to Natureland Seal Sanctuary where it also caused damage. It ran off to the Suncastle bowling green where it was eventually captured and taken back to kennels at Skegness Police Station at about 8.45am.


The dog will be moved to secure kennels pending enquiries.


The injured officer and cyclist were takene to Skegness A&E for treatment.


The 29-year old man was arrested on suspicion of cruelty to animals and taken to Skegness Police Station. He was interviewed in relation to this offence, two dangerous dog complaints and criminal damage to property.


He has been released on police bail pending further enquiries and is due to return on August 4.
