Wednesday, 2.32pm - A CHRISTMAS concert by Alford Silver Band has been demanded in Chapel St Leonards after the success of the weekend's event.
The band delighted the sell-out crowd at Chapel village hall with a lively concert under the baton of assistant musical director Richard Walker.

Chairman Martin Briggs said: "Richard had to adapt the programme a little because of a few key players being away.

"We had to miss out a couple of numbers that have proved to be huge favourites lately, but we were able to draw on our vast repertoire to replace them."

Principal cornet Tina Wood played a beautiful solo arrangement of Somewhere Over the Rainbow by Mr Walker, and then joined Josh Wilkinson for Something Stupid.

This was followed by the foot-tapping Buglers' Trio and then Alex Taylor lead the band with the euphonium solo To a Wild Rose.

The audience loved it, and none more so than retired military musician Cyril Burfitt to whom Mr Walker handed the baton to lead the band into the second half.

Mr Burfitt said: "I was so very proud. It took me back to my old days. They followed me perfectly and you would never have known it was the first time I had conducted them.

"They are very professional."

The night continued with brilliant performances by the training band and finished with an encore of the Lincolnshire Poacher.

Village hall chairman Christine Lewry asked them to return at Christmas, and cheered by an ecstatic crowd the band agreed.

It will perform at the Christmas lights switch-on on November 28, a carol service on the green on December 19 and the concert on December 10.
