Wednesday, 10am: A COMMUNITY response calling for post offices in Skegness to remain open has been sent to Post Office and Postwatch.
Town clerk Tony Cumberworth put together a letter outlining reasons why the Drummond Road and Sea View Road branches should stay.

The branches were earmarked for closure in July and a six week consultation period finished yesterday, Tuesday.

More than 6,000 people signed petitions to keep the branches open and the community hopes its efforts will be rewarded.

In the letter, Mr Cumberworth outlined the levels of deprivation of the wards affected by the proposed closure, the queues at alternative post offices and the difficulties the elderly or infirm may have in using these facilities.

He also commented on the effect on shops in the two areas, which he believes may suffer if the branches are closed.

Skegness Mayor Coun Neil Pimperton said: "I am proud of the residents of Skegness for supporting our petition on the closures. We will not sit back and just let them happen."
