Monday, 10.09am - A DONKEY MOT will be carried out n Skegness today, Monday.
The Donkey Sanctuary, based at Sidmouth, believes it is essential for donkeys to have an annual health check and today 85 Skegness donkeys will receive a medical.
Welfare and veterinary experts from the Donkey Sanctuary, along with officials from East Lindsey District Council will check the health and welfare of each donkey and ensure they are licensed to work.
Once passed, each donkey will receive a painless brand on their hooves for visual identification.
Shelagh Steel of the Donkey Sanctuary said: "The health checks reassure the public of the high standard of donkey care given by the owners and the commitment of local authorities towards the welfare of the donkeys and safety of the riders."
The Donkey Code of Practice was introduced last month and is designed to standardise levels of care.
The code recommends donkeys should work no more than six days a week, they should have an hour's rest when working long periods and riders cannot weigh more than eight stone.
