Hundreds of disadvantaged children and their parents or guardians will be heading from Mansfield to Skegness next week thanks to the kindness of a taxi firm, and dozens of businesses in the two towns.

6Five2’s Taxi Fun Run is now into its fifth year.

Every summer they bring dozens of taxis and mini buses to the resort for free so that children and families who might otherwise not be able to enjoy the summer holidays, will get the chance to visit the seaside.

On Tuesday they will be ferrying over 600 children and their parents/guardians to Skegness totally free.

“All our drivers work for free and put the fuel in their cars in order to give the families a great day out,” said a spokesperson. “Over 50 taxis and mini buses and five coaches will be leaving at 9am in a convoy with a police escort out of Mansfield.

“Miss Mansfield will be there to wave us off.

“We will leave Mansfield from the Superbowl in town at 9am. They are opening at 7am to give the children a free game of bowls to start the day off.

“Mansfield Town Football Club’s ‘football in the community’ is also going and will be offering football and games on the beach.”

Upon their arrival in Skegness the children will receive free fish and chips and ice cream, as well as a free donkey ride and goodie bag.

“Also this year, our fifth year, a stick of commemorative 6five2’s rock, half price road train and crazy golf is also on offer,” added the spokesperson.

Families from children’s centres at Mansfield Woodhouse, Titchfield and Oakham, Warsop and Meden Vale, Shirebrook, Sutton and Huthwaite, Oaktree, Belamy, Ravensdale, Forest Town, Ladybrook and Pleasley and the Mansfield council’s homeless section will be among those enjoyign the day out.

The generous taxi drivers will also be taking senior citizens from Parkside Nursing Home along for the ride.

A number of Mansfield businesses have come on board to support the cause, including McEwans Coaches, Superbowl, AFHI ltd, Glenn’s Tyres, Dave’s Test Station, Pentagon Vauxhall, S. R. Payne, Jangos, Mansfield Rotary Club, Towergate Insurance, M.T.F.C and S B Spray Tec.
