A 50-year-old man is in a serious condition after suffering burns during a fire which completely gutted a wooden chalet in Ingoldmells early yesterday morning.

Lincolnshire Police has confirmed reports made by neighbours yesterday who said a man had been injured during the blaze at Point Road in the village.

The victim was taken to a specialist burns unit at Nottingham City Hospital, where he remains in a serious condition.

Police and fire investigators are currently investigating the cause of the fire, initially believed to have been a discarded cigarette.

Two fire crews from Skegness and one from Alford attended the fire at 3.37am, extinguishing it by 7am using two main jets and one hose reel.
