Two well-known artists are set to fill a shopping centre’s gallery with a riot of colour just in time for Valentine’s Day.
The pair, May Jones and John Byford, will inject the H-Art Gallery with their unique collection from tomorrow (Thursday), hot on the heels of a series of already successful exhibitions at the pop-up site.
The gallery, in the Hildreds Centre, will feature a vibrant display of pieces mixing digital images of Spain by John and collages of sunflowers by May, until Thursday, February 19.
Speaking previously, while May’s sunflower pieces were displayed in the Embassy Theatre’s gallery, she said: “I used the sunflower in particular as a mode of transport as there are so many stages to its life-cycle.
“The pieces look at the whole life of the plant and I used collage and recycled materials to show the different textures to almost make it seem alive.”
And Hildreds’ deputy manager, Steve Andrews, who has been heavily involved in the project said: “We are absolutely amazed at how popular the gallery has been. The first exhibition saw 2,518 visitors through the doors and in four days the last exhibition we held, which showcased the work of Steve Gould, saw an additional 2,000 people visit. We’re hoping the next exhibition is just as successful.”
The display will be free. It is open from 9.30am – 5.30pm each day except on Sunday when it will run from 10am – 4pm. For details visit www.hildredsshoppingcentre.co.uk
