Following the news of Paul Daniels’ death at the age of 77 earlier today (Thursday), photographer Ben Hardaker has found pictures of the magician opening the Hildreds Shopping Centre.

Taken in the autumn of 1988, Paul is pictured in one of the photographs with wife Debbie McGhee having just cut the ribbon to declare the new centre open.

The second photo shows Paul and Debbie inside the Hildreds during an autograph signing session with some of his fans, young and not so young.

In the photo Paul is eating some sweets someone bought him after he said he was thirsty following the opening of the centre.

In the background looking on is the late Dennis Waddingham who at the time was manager of the Embassy Theatre, where the official reception was held following the opening ceremony.
