A CLASSICAL orchestra has been added to the exciting programme of arts, culture and sporting events scheduled for this year’s extended SO Festival.

The Swedish Helsingborg Symphony Orchestra, one of Europe’s finest, will be performing at the Embassy Theatre on Sunday, June 17.

The announcement has been timed to coincide with the 150 day countdown to the London Olympic Games 2012, which this year’s week long SO Festival has been extended in celebration of.

Leader of East Lindsey District Council Coun Doreen Stephenson said: “We are delighted to be welcoming the Helsingborg Symphony Orchestra to East Lindsey - I am sure it will be an exceptional and memorable evening.

“This year will see an amazing array of art, culture and sporting events taking place across East Lindsey and I hope that as many people as possible take the opportunity to see something new.

“As a council we are also incredibly proud that SO Festival 2012 has been awarded an Inspire Mark, which is recognition of the work we’re doing to raise the profile of our district nationally.

“This is ELDC’s 11th Inspire Mark and is testimony to our on-going commitment of bringing new, innovative art and cultural events to the district, not only to provide opportunities for people to experience new things but also to help businesses and the local economy by attracting visitors.”

The 61 member orchestra’s visit will further cement existing ties between East Lindsey and the Swedish town, which began in 2009 at the SEAS Festival in Skegness.

Dignitaries from the town were impressed when they attended the European organised event and ever since there have been a series of cultural exchanges between the two towns.

ELDC is also hoping to support other events scheduled to take place throughout the district with its accreditation and support initiative East Lindsey Live.

Events accredited by East Lindsey Live receive marketing support, listings on an official website and permission to use the logo on their own marketing material.

More than 40 events have already been accredited through the system including the Lincolnhire Wolds Walking Festival and the Mablethorpe Motorcycle Festival.

l Tickets for the Helsingborg Symphony Orchestra are available from the Embassy Theatre’s Box Office on 0845 674 0505 costing £19.50 for adults and £11 for children.
