A proud mother has encouraged youngsters to join a Skegness performing arts school, which helped her son land a top West End audition.

Jane Fitzpatrick’s son Billy hopes to take the role of Michael in Billy Elliot after developing a love of theatre during last year’s Embassy School of Performing Arts sessions.

The school has recently resumed and Jane has urged other parents to enlist their children so they too can benefit from its professional tuition and nurturing atmosphere.

She said: “I think the school is great because it provides kids with so many opportunities to get involved with every aspect of performance and there’s a lovely family atmosphere to the sessions.

“Some children are put off by the idea of dance but this school covers everything from singing and acting to stage management, so there’s something for everyone.”

Jane’s two sons Billy and Freddy both took starring roles in the school’s 2012 production of Oliver and this year features even more opportunities for children to take part in its version of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.

Some of the students will also be given the fantastic opportunity to perform in the professional show when it visits the Embassy Theatre from April 30 to May 4.

School principal and head of dram Liza Rebecca Walsh has also encouraged more youngsters to try their hand at performing, which she believes can also help develop their self-confidence.

She said: “I’m passionate about this theatre company and I am proud that we have a have a wonderful group of students who live performing as much as I do.

“I want our students to feel they are part of something special and that they can develop at their own pace and time.

“It is important to me that children are nurtured and I encourage the students to use their experiences in a fun and positive environment.”

The Embassy School of Performing Arts is open to anyone aged six to 18 and takes place every Saturday from 10.30am to 12.30pm at the Embassy Theatre Skegness.

Lessons cost £8 but a free taster session is available for those who want to meet the teachers and other students before committing.
