Teen teams up with nightspot
An under 18s Energy event held at LA Cafe recently.
An intrepid young entrepreneur has teamed up with a popular night spot to provide a safe and fun environment for young people to enjoy themselves this Halloween.
Skegness Grammar School student Joseph Simpson began hosting his under 18s Energy events around a year ago with the aim of giving young people in the town a place to meet up and have fun while keeping out of trouble .
He said: “There’s not a great deal for young people to do in Skegness so the idea behind my events is to create a great place for teenagers to socialise and have fun instead of wandering the streets.”
The 16-year-old hopes his next event, taking place at LA Cafe on Wednesday, October 31, from 7pm will be the biggest and best yet and has arranged a variety of Halloween themed entertainment and activities to appeal to youngsters on the scariest night of the year.
There will be ghoulish non-alcoholic ‘mocktails’ to drink, apple-bobbing competitions to enter and party-goers are also urged to dress up in scary costumes to stand a chance of winning a £50 cash prize.
LA Cafe owner Taj Bola has supported Joseph’s events from the outset, which he believes are great for the town’s youth and its license-holders.
He said: “It’s a constant battle trying to keep minors out of venues because there is nowhere else for them to go, so events like this are a really positive step and I support them 100 per cent.”
Joseph only hosts his events during school holidays, so that his young customers aren’t distracted from their studies, which he hopes will help him earn the support of parents.
The event runs from 7pm until 11pm, costs £6 on the door and is open for customers aged between 13 and 17.
