Skegness to host Spring Market this weekend

Skegness hopes to be filled with joys of spring this weekend - even if the weather may have other plans.

Skegness Carnival Committee’s first Spring Market event on Sunday will see Lumley Road closed to traffic to make way for around 20 stalls, selling a mixture of crafts and quality new merchandise.

Committee chairman Kris Bell says the market has been organised for the benefit of local people and hopes it will be well received.

“It’s the week before Easter and this should be a great occasion to go out and support the town,” he said.

“There’s been discussion around town saying there should be more events created for locals rather than just the tourists, which is why we’ve done it.”

The stalls will be located towards the west of Lumley Road, between Lumley Avenue and the one-way system.

Outside the Hildreds Centre there will be a mascot parade featuring many of the region’s much-loved costumed characters who will be celebrating the launch of a new Visit the Seaside guide.

At 11am there will also be a sponsored double decker bus pull held in aid of disabled Skegness man Steven Huckle, who hopes to raise funds for a standing wheelchair to help him walk again.

The market will be open from 10am until 4pm.
