A THOUSAND leather-clad bikers rolled into Spilsby amid glorious sunshine last week to enjoy the town’s biggest and best bike night yet.
Peter and Lisa McDowall’s fifth annual event has been hailed unanimously as a roaring success for Spilsby, its visitors and the Air Ambulance charity, which benefited from hundreds of generous donations.
Originally a low-key gathering for a few motorcycle enthusiasts, Spilsby Bike Night has flourished into a highlight of the calendar for visitors near and far after its reputation spread among the biking fraternity.

AE Wildmans owner Peter said: “It was absolutely perfect, the weather was brilliant, the town was full to capacity and several people have told me it was the best one yet.
“People have grown to view Spilsby as a great place for bikers as it’s a nice ride from different areas in the county and has a very sociable scene with everything based around the town centre.”
As the event eased into gear last Tuesday evening, the deep roar of Harley Davidsons could be heard cruising through the town’s streets, which before long were teaming with all manner of mechanised marvels ranging from trikes and vintage scooters through to modern superbikes and custom built specialities.
Peter added: “When you looked out across the town it was if you were stood on stage at a Queen concert, looking out over the crowd - it was that packed you could barely see an inch of tarmac.”
Businesses in the town capitalised on the jubilant atmosphere by staying open late to serve refreshments to the hungry bikers.
Popular local band Dr Frankenfish serenaded the crowd from the back of a lorry provided by JC International and other Spilsby based organisations such as the Rotary Club and neighbourhood policing teams manned displays and games of their own.
Mayor of Spilsby Coun Michael Lenton has praised the event’s organisers for helping to put Spilsby on the map with an event which appeals to generations young and old with its cordial atmosphere and celebratory feel.
“It was absolutely fantastic - all credit must go to Peter and McDowall and his wife Lisa, it was a great atmosphere which appealed to everyone from ages five to 95,2 he said.
Spilsby’s charming town centre has been attributed as a key factor in the event’s success by visitors and organisers who have complimented its lay-out as being conducive to hosting events of this nature.
“We couldn’t have a beter suited environemnt if we planned it from scratch,” Coun Lenton said.
