Camera d’Or winner to hit screen
Las Acacias will screen in Louth on Monday, August 6.
LOUTH FIlm Club has announced plans to screen a ‘delightful Argentinian movie’ next week.
The film Las Acacias will be screened on Monday, August 6 at the Playhouse Cinema in Louth.
“Winner of the Camera d’Or for best film by a first-time director (Pablo Giorgelli) at last year’s Cannes Film Festival, Las Acacias is a road movie with a difference,” said a spokesperson.
“The vehicle in question is an HGV carrying a load of timber and its three main characters are Rubén, the truck driver, Jacinta, the woman he has reluctantly agreed to take with him on a long haul from Paraguay across the Argentinian border to Buenos Aires, and Anahí, the woman’s baby daughter.
“Rubén’s gradually changing attitude to his passengers, from initial resentment, is beautifully portrayed and there are great performances all round, by Germán de Silva as Rubén, Hebe Duarte as Jacinta and even by the then five-month-old Nayra Calle Mamani as Anahí,” they added.
The dialogue is in Spanish, with English subtitles. Las Acacias is Certificate 12A. The show starts at 7.30pm. Non-members are welcome, paying the normal Playhouse Cinema ticket prices.
