Blood Brothers cast wow in Skegness!
Blood Brothers
ONE of the most critically acclaimed West End musicals got underway this week with legendary stars making appearances during one of Skegness’s hottest tickets to date - Blood Brothers.
Cast star Sean Jones who plays Mickey. a character who struggles with depression, gets into trouble with the law and is involved in violence.
Speaking to the Standard he explained that the show ‘is a musical for the musical phobic if anything’ as the screenplay deals with gritty issues throughout the 1970s and 1980s.
“The play deals with tough issues which are deeply moving and emotionally charged.
“I play Mickey, who is a broken adult and an ex-convict - it’s engaging and each character is complex. It’s a musical for those who aren’t interested in musicals. It’s for the musical phobic because of its drama and suspense.”
Blood Brothers began on Monday, with four more days still to go this week, taking the number of performances to eight during its appearance at the Embassy Theatre in Skegness.
Sean said he was ‘excited’ to be returning to his character of Mickey after appearances in 1999, 2002 and on and off since then.
“I’m really excited to be coming to Skegness; it’s a new venue and we have six nights,” added Sean. “I’m very lucky to be doing this with such an amazing cast and it’s a show that thankfully everyone loves and keeps coming back for.”
Written by Willy Russell in 1982, Blood Brothers was originally made for schools. It tells the captivating and moving story of twins who are separated at birth who end up on opposite sides of the tracks only to meet later in life where things take a fateful turn.
“It provides a gamut of emotions for the audience, there’s something for everyone and it certainly invokes a few tears even for the most unlikely. I love it when teenagers watch it as it can be difficult to please their age but there’s something for every age and gender in Blood Brothers,” explained Sean.
Blood Brothers’ stint at the Embassy Theatre runs right through until Saturday.
