Author to read ghost stories by candlelight
A spooky Halloween evening of ghost stories told by candlelight will be terrifying visitors to Skegness Library tomorrow (Thursday).
Skegness author William Hussey will be reading a collection of short horror stories including an exclusive premiere of his latest work ‘Turn Her Face to the Wall’ not due for general release until next year.
William said: “It’s going to be freaky and creepy and not for the faint hearted.”
The popular children’s author has also selected tales by two of fiction’s ‘horror masters’ to be read during the evening, which is free to attend.
The ‘grandfather of ghost stories’ MR James’ most famous work ‘Oh Whistle and I’ll Come for You My Lad’ is situated in a seaside town, which William hopes will resonate with his audience. He said: “Anyone who has walked along Skegness beach and noticed the eerie sensation of being followed can relate to this.”
William’s final selection, ‘Some Children Wander by Mistake’, by best-selling author John Connelly tells the tale of a sinister circus returning to ‘reap the fruits of seeds sown many years before.’
The library will be decorated in a ghostly fashion for the event, which runs from 7.30pm until 8.30pm, and William also hopes there will be some eerie music to add to the ambience.
Having visited schools to read his works for the past three years, William promises to make it ‘quite a performance’.
Although the evening will be more ‘spooky than horrific’, it is for over 10s only.
