Artists wow at H-Art preview day
The H-Art preview event last week.
The first preview evening of a shopping centre’s new pop-up gallery was described as being ‘hugely successful’ as shoppers wandered through the doors to browse, last Thursday.
Upcoming and well-known artists from across the area used the space to showcase their colourful and imaginative work from 4.30pm until 7.30pm within the Hildreds Shopping Centre, Skegness.
From the moment the ribbon was snipped by centre manager, Pete Roffe, guests were greeted by none other than the beast from popular Disney movie, Beauty and The Beast, created by deputy manager for the centre Steve Andrews.
Not before being wowed on the left by John Byford’s eye-catching photography and Mark Baumbers alcohol inspired colourful creations.
Other work present by artists on the night included, Steve Gould, Barbara Melling, Nicki Jarvis, May Jones and upcoming young artist and Skegness local Emma Rawlins.
It is the first exhibition for Emma, who displayed her Surf artwork which was inspired by her love of the coast, surfing and her time spent travelling.
“It is really exciting and it’s great that the gallery is right in the heart of Skegness,” said Emma Rawlins.
Addlethorpe artist May Jones, who has held her work in the Embassy Gallery recently, said it was a ‘great space’ which would make art available for all to see and Skegness Town Councillor George Saxon, said he thought the gallery was ‘wonderful’ and was a great way to keep things local.
Photographer and exhibitor, John Byford thought the night had been hugely successful and hoped the following days would be just as well attended.
The H-Art Gallery is open Friday, Saturday and Monday 9.30am-5.30pm and Sunday 10am-4pm. Steve Gould will be holding a solo exhibition from February 1-4.
