EDITOR – It would appear that the Skegness illuminations switch-on event is again under threat.
East Lindsey District Council is planning SO2010 festival during the last weekend of July, the usual date when switch-on takes place.

This year pressure from Skegness Town Council had the parade reinstated, although it was along a shorter route and in daylight.

Carnival week, run by a group of dedicated hard working volunteers, and switch-on are the two main events during town's holiday season.

If Skegness is to get another festival then surely it could happen at another time. Why meddle with something which has been running successfully for many decades?

True, tradition does need on occasions to make way for new ideas, however Skegness events diary has enough blank weekends to take this exciting arts and entertainment concept without upsetting the established.

With careful costings, less extravagance and perhaps sponsors I believe both events should happen, if only to support the local economy.
