07/05/08 - Chief is there to carry out councillors' wishes
EDITOR - Having just read a recent article regarding the exclusion of the Press from the discussions about the disposal of certain elements of the foreshore, I am compelled to drop you a line.
Neil Cooper, quite rightly invited the Press to this very important meeting.
The chief executive, Nigel Howells, then arbitrarily decreed that the Press would be excluded.
This man obviously attended the Robert Mugabe school of democracy. When I was on the council, the chief executive was there to carry out the wishes of the elected executive, as is the duty of all the other paid officials at East Lindsey District Council.
I am drawn to the conclusion, that most elected members of the council at ELDC have become so bovine and spineless, that so long as their very generous financial allowances continue to flow into their bank accounts, they don't give a damn about putting the paid officials firmly back in their place.
For those among them who may think there is nothing they can do, I remind them that the late and much missed Coun Ronald Scott, when he was leader of ELDC, had no hesitation in sacking a certain Austin Silcox Crow, the then chief executive.
