PATRICK McGuinness, of Phoenix Nights fame, supplied an evening of strictly adult humour at the Embassy Theatre, Skegness, on Monday night, writes James Madge
Well into the second leg of his nationwide Dark Side tour, Patrick, or more affectionately 'Paddy', gave an hour-long performance, breaking as many taboos as possible.
While he is certainly not ashamed of his previous background as Peter Kay's sidekick, this tour is clearly Paddy's chance to move away from the family friendly brand of humour Kay is widely known for.
His charismatic stage presence was clear, and he had no problem raising the house lights and mingling with the audience.
In between the jokes, he involved the audience in the occasional sing-along, covering both the Minder and the Max and Paddy theme tunes.
At one point, the Boston/Skegness rivalry was accidentally touched upon, which eventually resulted in Paddy siding with the Skegness crowd!
Before the show, audience members were invited to ask Paddy a question, and his session of answers took up a good portion of the show.
While many were not suitable for publication in a family newspaper, the tamer questions ranged from marriage proposals to being challenged on the price of his merchandise.
While I feel he could have made the show a little longer, I enjoyed the evening and left the theatre thinking 'that'll dink-dank-do for me!'
