A FASCINATING book of old photographs of the Skegness area is now available from local outlets.
Skegness Past will bring memories flooding back to older readers and provide the younger generation with an enjoyable pictorial history of the resort and surrounding villages.
Published by Lincolnshire Newspapers in conjunction with At Heart, the book has been compiled by former editor of the Skegness Standard John Cowpe. It contains 177 local photographs and captions.

From humble origins as a small farming and fishing village Skegness has developed into the premier holiday resort on the east coast.

Largely using the photographic archive of the Skegness Standard, Skegness Past traces the history of the area from the end of the 19th century through to the year 2000.
The photographs and captions illustrate a compelling story - including high points, such as the coming of the railway, the development of the town's foreshore, and the impact of famous entrepreneur Billy Butlin, and low points such as the tragic 1953 East Coast Floods.

There are special sections on the floods; a visit by Princess Margaret in 1968; the Skegness It's Knockout team's entry into Eurovision's Jeux Sans Frontieres competition in 1974; Skegness lifeboat and its personnel; and the Janice Sutton Theatre School.

There are also some photographs kindly contributed by Standard readers.

If you buy the book you may well see pictures of your ancestors - or even spot yourself when you were younger!
At only £12.99, Skegness Past would make a great Christmas present or table top souvenir.

Just £12.99
