A DIAMOND couple from Alford have put their 60 years of marriage success down to ‘a great deal of tolerance and compromise’.

Joan and Cyril Harrison of Coles Avenue celebrate their diamond wedding anniversary on Thursday, having spent 60 years as a married couple after meeting at a party.

Cyril had been going out with a friend of Joan’s, but after the friend’s indecision Joan was keen to set up a meeting.

Joan, then of Mumby, and Cyril of Withern then saw their relationship bloom.

Joan explained: “It doesn’t seem like 60 years I don’t know where the time has gone!

“Thankfully we’ve been relatively fit and healthy, and I’m lucky that Cyril doesn’t look his age.”

Cyril spent time working for the Alford Drainage Board while Joan was a cook.

They lived in Withern before moving to Alford where they have lived happily for the past 22 years.

The couple have two children and four grandchildren, all now aged between 20 and 25.

“I’d say the secret of our success is a great deal of tolerance and compromise, although I wouldn’t say we’ve ever really had a proper fight,” Joan continued.

The happy couple will be celebrating their big day with a party and a meal out with their family.
