Latest Skegness seal rescue is named after Olympic cycling great Sir Chris Hoy
Chris relaxes at the outdoor pool.
The Natureland Seal Sanctuary in Skegness has decided to name its latest rescue after Olympic cycling legend Sir Chris Hoy.
The sanctuary chooses a theme every year when naming its seals.
And this year it has been naming all rescued seals after Olympic athletes in recognition of the 2012 games, where Sir Chris picked up another two medals to add to his superb Olympic total of six gold and one silver.
Chris the seal was rescued just over a week ago at Chapel Point.
The three-month-old pup was suffering from lung worm and in a weakened condition, but he has responded very well to treatment.
After a short stint in the sanctuary’s ‘seal hospital’ he has now been moved to the outdoor pool - and the popular visitor attraction hopes it will be able to release Chris back into the wild in around three or four weeks.
Natureland’s Duncan Yeadon said: “He’s had worming injections and he’s feeling a lot better. He’s that much better that he’s been moved out of the hospital and is now in the outside pool.
“He was quite a good weight when he came in. He was actually 40lbs - a lot of the pups we rescue are really, really skinny.
“But in three or four weeks hopefully he’ll be going back into the wild, so it will hopefully be quite a quick recovery with Chris.”
