THE plight of a young seal stranded hundreds of miles from home has inspired a veteran Skegness DJ to help repatriate the lost creature.

Eve the hooded seal pup was rescued by Natureland Seal Sanctuary in December after she washed ashore at Chapel St Leonards Beach.

A transmitter fitted to her head revealed the lost youngster was more than a thousand miles from her Icelandic birthplace.

And it wasn’t the first time the navigationally challenged pup had ventured far from her species’ usual Arctic territory - in October she washed up in Germany where she was again rescued by a local sanctuary.

Natureland’s quest to return their adventurous visitor to her natural home tugged at the heart strings of a former regular of the Skegness entertainment scene - DJ Bogey.

As a school friend of Natureland’s Duncan Yeadon and a fan of the sanctuary’s valuable work, DJ Bogey decided to organise a fund raising musical event in aid of Eve’s repatriation mission.

He said: “I read about it in the Standard and thought - poor little thing, so felt it would be nice to help get her home.

“Natureland are always out rescuing seals so I thought they could do with the help.

“It’s nice to see the money go to a local worthwhile cause.”

DJ Bogey along with friends Keith Bishop and paramedic Mark Hall will be blasting out the hits from their heydays in the 70s and 80s at Grand Central, Skegness, on March 10.

In keeping with the nostalgic theme the venue will be serving up culinary favourites from the era such as chicken in a basket.

DJ Bogey continued: “Entry is only £5 so it’s nice to be able to do something cheap and fun in these difficult times and to raise money for a worthwhile cause at the same time.”

There will also be a raffle on the night for which DJ Bogey is looking for businesses to donate prizes. If you can make a donation call him on 07957 284425.

Funds raised will help Natureland’s mission to return Eve to her Icelandic home or to release her from the north of Scotland.

Tickets will be available from Natureland and Grand Central.
