JUBILEE - Partney’s once in a lifetime Jubilee celebrations concluded on Monday night with a firework display which could be seen across the Wash at Sandringham.
The beacon had been strategically sited on Dalby Hill Top to give clear views over Great Steeping, Firsby, Thorpe, Wainfleet and beyond.
It marked a fitting conclusion to the village’s action-packed programme.
The celebrations started off on Saturday, May 26 May with a rip-roaring concert by the Partney School Choir and the Partney Choir under the direction of Margaret White.
The concert rounded off with a selection of songs and music from the ‘Last Night of the Proms’ and concluded with much flag waving whilst singing Land of Hope and Glory, all orchestrated by the compere John Hudson.
Then it was the turn of the Partney CE Primary School, who turned their last day of term into a Jubilee celebration. Their programme included a good sing song, plenty of dressing up, and a sponsored run in aid of St Barnabas’ Hospice.
Then on the Saturday of the Jubilee weekend the village enjoyed “Tea at the Ritz” in the Victory Hall, which was greatly enjoyed by a full house of customers.
They enjoyed a delicious tea provided by ‘waitresses’ dressed in appropriate Ritz costumes and splendid period china adorned the tables, all accompanied by suitable background music of the period.
Then after a hurried turn round, the Victory Hall was transformed into a dance hall in readiness for a splendid night of dancing to the fabulous ‘Hoochys’ band. Once again a full house enjoyed a great night’s entertainment.
On the Sunday morning a group “Songs of Praise” was held in Partney Church, where the selection of favourite hymns had been chosen earlier by ballot.
The large congregation enjoyed a good sing and afterwards retired to the Victory Hall for refreshments.
To round off the village’s six-event programme a large crowd turned out to view the lighting of the beacon and watch the fireworks display.
All of the events have been recorded on film by Mick Lovelock and his team. On a future date it is hoped that the public will be able to sit back in the Victory Hall and enjoy watching some Partney history in the making.
Organisers of th ecelebrations would like to thank all of the volunteers and the members of the Victory Hall Committee, who were mainly responsible for planning the whole event.
“The village events celebrating the Diamond Jubilee of the Queen’s reign will never be forgotten and will certainly not be repeated in our lifetime,” said a spokesperson.
