Ingoldmells library - ‘pathetic’

A NEW library in Ingoldmells has been scathingly dismissed as ‘pathetic’ and an ‘absolute disgrace’ by an incensed villager.

Lincolnshire County Council’s executive members were heavily criticised over the library during a Big Conversation Roadshow they hosted at the Royal Arthur Centre on Monday evening.

“Why has someone put that pathetic library in the village?” said one outraged villager, who felt the mobile library visits, which are to be phased out, were far superior to the 300 books on offer in the new facility.

“It’s an absolute disgrace,” he added.

The county council’s executive member for cultural services Coun Eddy Poll defended the library, saying it had been introduced in response to the community’s request. He also explained that 700 extra books and a computerised management system could soon be brought in to enhance the service.

“I’m sure it will be a reasonable success,” he said.

However, Ingoldmells Parish Council’s chairman Coun John Arnott-Watson said he was disappointed by LCC’s offer of support.

“We were promised it would be computerised and it’s not,” he said.

“The parish council has had to buy its own stamp and there was no publicity other than what the parish council put in the local newspaper.

“The idea is good but as a council we are disappointed by the back up we’ve had from the county council.”

LCC’s leader Coun Martin Hill agreed ‘it should be a partnership’ between the two councils. The volunteer-run service at the Royal Arthur Centre opens on Mondays and Wednesdays from 10am to noon and Friday afternoons from 2pm to 4pm.
