Mk10 Civic details revealed at last

The family hatchback market is strongly contested by all the big mainstream manufacturers, but the likes of the Ford Focus, VW Golf and Vauxhall Astra can’t rest on their laurels, because Honda’s next Civic is on the way.

Details of the tenth-generation model have just been released, and the big news is that’s it’s larger than ever before. The resultant roomier cabin boasts a 478-litre boot, plenty of space for passengers and a new digital dashboard with extensive touchscreen control.

All four spec levels, from the base car upwards, will be highly equipped with safety and luxury kit, and there will be a Sport model with its own bodykit. Two petrol engines will be available from launch, incorporating a sub-100g/k 127bhp 1.0-litre and a 180bhp 1.5 petrol. The lion’s share of sales will go to a revised version of the current 1.6-litre diesel. A six-speed manual transmission will be standard, with the option of a CVT on the petrol cars and a nine-speed auto on the diesel.

Prices have not yet been revealed, but are promised to be competitive with those of rivals.
