ALFORD Silver Band has said farewell to one of its key players.
Margaret Briggs joined the band in 2002 as a member of the second cornet section. She quickly progressed to solo cornet and has proved to be a talented player.
She comes from a musical family with her father Martin being the band's chairman and her brother Stuart playing first trombone.
Margaret, who lives in Chapel St Leonards and attended Skegness Grammar School, began playing the flute when she was 12. She moved onto the cornet which she has largely taught herself.
Her dad said: "She is a real support to the solo cornets and always willing to have a go at anything.
"She has played several solo passages and performed a cornet duet at the band's concert last March."
Margaret, who won the band's bandsmanship trophy last year for all her hard work and support, is moving to Llanwrst in Wales for work.
Mr Briggs added: "I hope she finds a band locally. It would be a real waste if she was to stop playing. And being in a band gives you an excellent social network.
"Margaret will always be a part of Alford Silver Band of course, and we will always have a part to play when she's visiting home."
