ALFORD Primary School has received a very good report from Ofsted with many favourable comments made by the inspectors.

It gained a good grade for many aspects of the school, with some being outstanding. None were classified as just satisfactory or being inadequate.

The high level of care, excellent personal development of the pupils, outstanding behaviour, and consistently good teaching were all highlighted.

There was excellent leadership from the head Howard Duncalfe and deputy head Debbie Forster, and many parents gave positive feedback about the school.

The children start school with skills and knowledge slightly below those expected for their age.

They make a good start to school life in the foundation stage and progress well, by the end of Year 2 many reach average standards. By Year 6 standards are above average and there are improving standards in English throughout the school.

Chairman of the governors Sandie Spenceley said: "We are very proud of the continuing achievements of the school and are committed to maintaining high standards for the future."
