A MORE vibrant future could beckon for Alford if plans to expand the Beechings Way Industrial Estate go ahead.
It emerged at a district council meeting that, if a deal can be reached with the owner, East Lindsey is keen to buy 15 acres of agricultural land next to the estate.
It hopes Italian-owned motor engineering firm Finnveden Powertrain Ltd could then be coaxed into relocating from its existing West Street site which could then be freed up for redevelopment with housing or shops.
"It would be a long drawn out process but it could help stimulate Alford," said portfolio holder for regeneration Coun Ed Mossop.
"It's a question of adopting a carrot-and-stick approach."
According to Coun Mossop, there are other businesses which might also be interested in relocating to an expanded industrial estate – for instance, a coal merchants and a Markby-based concrete-making firm.
