ALFORD threw a fantastic festive party on Friday with the lights switched-on and events held in the town centre throughout the day.
Local school children performed in the Corn Exchange and Santa paid a visit in his grotto. There was 1940s tea dance and festive refreshments available too.

Organiser Paul Lane said: "It was fantastic, the whole town turned out, they did us proud. I have all positive feedback and next year it is going to be bigger and better."

Alford Chamber of Commerce, Alford Town Council and PCSO Dee Phillips decided to get together and put on a bigger event this year which invoilved the whole town.

Local school children entered a colouring competition to win the right to turn on the Christmas lights with the help of Mayor Coun Graham Hounslow. This honour fell to 10-year-old Megan Birt of Huttoft Primary School.

Alford also showed it had talent at a contest organised by Bob Clifford at the Windmill Hotel. A series of heats had been held and 30 entrants reduced to four finalists. The final was held at the Corn Exchange.

The winner was Paul Andrew, second was Katie Abbott and third were duo Fixation.
