A JACK Russell dog called Oi has had a lucky escape after eating rat poison.
Angelina Walker from Admiralty Road, Mablethorpe, had taken her two-year-old dog for a walk on land off Pinfold Lane in Beesby, just by the bridge over the drain.

Although Oi was on a lead, he picked up some rat poison and ate it before his owner could stop him. Luckily she noticed what he ate, and rushed him straight to the vets in Louth.
She was able to find a similar pellet of poison nearby to show the vet what Oi had eaten, and he was able to treat the dog before any permanent damage could be done.

Miss Walker said: "The vet said it was lucky I had seen him eat it, often it is too late to save pets, especially cats, by the time the owners realise there is something wrong.
"It has cost me a £50 vets bill, but I'm glad I've still got Oi safe. I just want to warn other dog owners of the danger of finding poison out in the open.
"I've contacted the Environment Agency and the council about this, particularly as it was close to a drain. If it's got into the water course, it could do a lot of damage.
"I have found a dead vole along the banks and I think it may have eaten some. The trouble is there are ducks and wildfowl on the river, and plenty of wildlife nearby, If they eat the poison it could set off a chain reaction among the animals and birds.
"I have also seen children walk along here. The poison is sweet so parents need to be vigilant."

Oi has to return to the vets for a final check up, but Miss Walker said there were big chunks of the poison on the pathway, these now seem to have disappeared.
